It is remarkable that the Internet Protocol has remained so resilient for decades, given how rapidly communication technologies have evolved.
Spending some time understanding the fundamental principles behind its operation is therefore worthwhile.
That's why I'm publishing the first version of my notes on the Internet today.
I chose Computer Networking: A Top-Down Approach (8th edition, 2021) as my primary source. It was a challenging read but I think I managed to get the most ouf of it.
I redrew more than 100 figures as SVGs. In doing so, I used Affinity instead of Illustrator for the first time.
I also used:
- icons from the Solar Broken Line Icons Collection and the Clarity Line Icons Collection
- the Roboto typeface
- Anton Tsitsulin's 12-color qualitative palette
- ChatGPT and Sonnet to clarify and correct parts of my notes
Once again, it took way longer than I expected, and the process spanned several years. It took so long that a new edition of the book came out in the meantime :)
I'll continue refining and expanding these notes over time.
